Canon Powershot Cameras - Which is right for you?

The Canon Powershot Camera line is the top line of point and shoot cameras that Canon offers. There are many options in this line of cameras, so here's a little help in getting started to pick out the right camera for you.

There are cameras that are great for absolute beginners all the way up to professional photographers.

Beginners - The Canon Powershot A-Series cameras are intended for beginning to intermediate users. The A-Series Powershot cameras are a great way to get introduced to digital photography, especially if you are on a budget. They have an easy to use interface with some excellent features. These cameras also provide great pictures, with at least 10 megapixels of resolution and face detection technology.

The Powershot E1 camera is also a great camera for beginners. It comes with an easy mode and easy playback mode to make picture taking effortless. The E1 camera is intended for a younger market with a style and customization features that these younger users enjoy.

Intermediate Users - The Digital Elph (aka S and SD-Series Powershot Cameras) are for those looking for both high performance and elegant style. These are point and shoot cameras that come with more features than the A-series camera and with an elegant style. Still useful for more mature beginning photographers.

Adventurers - The Powershot D10 camera is intended for those who will be using their camera in harsher than normal conditions. The D-10 can handle extremes such as, diving to a depth of 10m, temperatures down to minus 10 degrees Celsius, and being droppped from as high as 1.2m. It is also designed to be handled with gloves on, with larger than normal button controls.

Advanced Users (prosumers) - Canon Powershot has a high end line of cameras intended for serious amateurs as well as professionals. These cameras have faster electronics, lenses with a wider maximum aperture, and are loaded with preset modes as well as full manual capability.

The Canon Powershot S and SX Series cameras are known as their super zoom cameras, and have full manual capability. A great choice for professionals and amateurs to use when using a more bulky SLR is not feasible.

The G-Series Powershot Cameras are intended for serious amateurs and professionals, and give the serious photographer a camera with a lot of flexibility and capability. These cameras have very high resolution, plenty of preset modes, and offer full manual capability.
